OWNER SPOTLIGHT: SEAN MCLAREN’S 616HP APR STAGE 3 TT RS

In this month’s Owner Spotlight, we put Sean’s road, track and drag Audi TT RS under the microscope – a car which has recently received a TTE700 turbocharger and APR Stage 3 calibration here at Ecotune.
WHAT’S INVOLVED?
Sean’s latest-generation Audi TT RS project has only escalated since he purchased the car at the start of 2019.
A keen driver that often takes his vehicles on the drag strip, race tracks and for countless fast road blasts, it’s unsurprising to hear that it’s the ‘performance’ department where most of the attention has been paid.
The car is one of the latest 2.5 TFSI-platform machines that Ecotune has had the pleasure of applying an APR Stage 3 calibration to. This tune requires a more capable turbocharger to be added into the equation, which in this instance comes in the form of a The Turbo Engineers TTE700 unit – a highly modified version of the original ‘charger that features the likes of a milled billet compressor and a high-flow turbine – both of which are much larger than on the original car’s.
To ensure optimum power and torque figures are obtained, it’s unsurprising to hear that comprehensively re-worked breathing and fuelling systems also make an appearance.
To top it all off, Sean has offered up some formidable chassis enhancements to make sure the car’s braking and cornering capabilities can keep up with the rapid performance on tap.

RESULTS
With all of the above hardware fitted, the TT RS was then put onto Ecotune’s rolling road where an APR Stage 3 calibration was carried out to its ECU.
The Audi’s motor is now capable of developing 616.0hp and 560.7lb ft of torque.
“It drives like stock when you want it to, but when you want it to be an animal, you just put your foot down! It’s remarkable how it can change so quickly,” Sean says. “We’re just waiting on an SRM fuel pump to run E85 fuel and unlock even more power.”
Since completion, Sean has used his car on track at Knockhill Racing Circuit on several occasions without missing a beat.
