ECOTUNE HOSTS FIRST TRACK NIGHT OF 2020 AT KNOCKHILL CIRCUIT

ECOTUNE HOSTS FIRST TRACK NIGHT OF 2020 AT KNOCKHILL CIRCUIT

The team and some customers ventured out onto the 2km circuit for the first time this year back in late July

It might’ve been later in the season than anticipated thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic, but we finally headed to Fife’s Knockhill Circuit on July 27th for our highly-anticipated debutant ‘track night’ of the year.

This event was organised by ourselves, giving our valued customers the opportunity to join us out on track and test their cars.

Despite the moist conditions throughout, everyone in attendance had a great few hours’ track action, with the majority of vehicles taking part unsurprisingly being modified German cars.

The evening was also a chance for us to illustrate just how versatile our recently record-breaking Golf R drag project car is, proving equally as savage around a circuit as it is on the quarter-mile strip with just a few tweaks in its setup.

EBC BRAKES RACING UPGRADES

One of the most significant of the aforementioned track tweaks to our Golf R came from our friends over at EBC Brakes Racing.

Removing the drag-focused STM front brake kit and dinky 15” alloys, we re-installed the car’s factory calipers before adding some stunning two-piece fully-floating discs and RP-X race pads from this motorsport arm of EBC, that seems to be going from strength to strength at the moment.

Apparently, these new products are developed on track for the best results, and after experiencing them for ourselves, we don’t doubt it for a second. The disc/pad combo is an excellent upgrade and massively improved both stopping power and fade resistance over the Golf’s standard brakes.

We performed around 30-40 full-send laps with absolutely no issues, no fade and constantly strong performance all night. It should also be fairly obvious based on some of these images that they can certainly cope with high heat!

They were a little squealy before the track day at low speeds, but as they’re solely designed for the track this seems understandable.

We’d say this disc-and-pad combo is the ideal upgrade for someone looking for a track day brake setup without needing to spend big brake kit money.
