GERMAN INVASION PART 1 PROVES HUGE SUCCESS FOR ECOTUNE-FETTLED CARS

A sea of Ecotune and APR-developed machinery descended on Fife’s Crail Raceway on Sunday, 23 June, for this year’s first instalment of the ever-popular German Invasion event.

The show – which Ecotune has acted as the main partner of for many years – is the place to witness all-wheel-drive launches and sub-10 second runs aplenty thanks to the incredibly high standard of vehicles that always attend.

Our friends from Manchester-based APR UK also came along for the ride, heading up from England and joining forces with the countless Ecotune cars that were also driving to the venue to form the mother of all convoys en route.

HIGHLIGHTS

- Gordon Guthrie – Mk7 VW Golf R (Ecotune Stage 3) – 10.760secs @ 129.30mph

- Drew Caldwell – Mk7 VW Golf R (Ecotune Stage 3) – 10.900secs @ 128.90mph

- Roberto Ciara – Audi RS3 (APR Stage 3, SRM Turbo) – 9.890secs @ 144.70mph (FASTEST RS3 IN EUROPE!)

- APR UK – Audi TTRS (APR Stage 3, TTE700 Turbo) – 9.530secs @149.00mph (Retains the ‘Fastest Car at Crail’ and ‘Fastest TTRS in the EU’ titles, but this time is slightly slower than its outright record of 9.500secs)

- Ecotune – Porsche 911 Turbo S (Ecotune Stage 2) – 10.470secs @139.80mph

- Kraig Atkinson – BMW 335d (Ecotune Stage 1+) – 12.120secs @ 116.60mph

- Peter MacDougall – BMW 335d (Ecotune Stage 2) – 12.060secs @114.50mph

Roberto Ciara’s RS3 was of particular importance for the Ecotune team – an ongoing project which also acts as the first SRM turbo-equipped APR car in the UK. It was fantastic to see it laying down such impressive figures on its first outing with this setup, and there’s plenty more still to come…

Ecotune’s very own 991.2 Porsche 911 Turbo S development car was sporting its all-new Eventuri carbon fibre air intake system, which unlocked an impressive amount of extra power and also produced a lovely noise in the process. It’s worth noting that all runs performed from this car on the day were done so on road-going Michelin tyres, and usually with a passenger onboard.

We’d like to thank everyone who attended and made the day such a special one, including the no less than 240 unique cars that took to the strip at least once during the event.
